HOLY

​

Most Christians are ignorant to what the word Holy really means. They define the word Holy according to their fleshly mind, and not according to what God says Holy is. Holy comes from the Greek word: Hagios (hag'-ee-os) blameless, consecrated = (set apart), sacred, saint, hallowed (proclaim). We may also use the Hebrew word: Qodesh (ko-desh) a sacred place or thing, consecrated place or thing, hallowed place or thing. These all came from the Hebrew word: Qadash (kaw-dash) to be, make, pronounce, observe, proclaim or keep (Holy).

God is Holy, we can only be made, proclaimed, set apart or observed as Holy. God and Jesus are the only ones who can make us Holy, because they are Holy. We cannot make ourselves Holy, as many Christians think they can. You can not work your way into Holiness, and this will be proved through scriptures.

EXODUS 3:5 And he said, Draw not near here: put off your shoes from off your feet, for the place whereon you stand is Holy ground.

 

EXODUS 19:6 And you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a Holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak unto the children of Israel.

 

NUMBERS 16:5 And He spoke unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even tomorrow the Lord will show who are His, and who is Holy; and will cause him to come near unto Him: even him whom he has chosen will he cause to come near unto Him.

As we can see in these old testament scriptures, God proclaimed the land Holy, the nation Holy and also which people were to be considered Holy. Things did not change in the new testament. As we can again see from the scriptures below:

 

EPHESIANS 1:4 According as He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be Holy and without blame before Him in Love.

 

ROMANS 12 verses 1-2 I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, Holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

These two scriptures above proved exactly what's being said: God chose us before the foundation of the world to be utilized for His purpose. If we were chosen before the foundation of the world, then God knows everything we have done and everything we will do. Every sacrifice given to God was Holy unto Him. The sacrifice, nor the place, nor the thing did anything to make themselves Holy. What made them Holy was the fact that they were set apart for God's use.

 

LEVITICUS 27:28 Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto the Lord of all that he has, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the Lord.

Listen carefully at what the scripture says, every devoted thing, man or beast and of the field is most Holy to God. What makes us Holy is first that God has chosen us, and then we must dedicate ourselves to Him for His purpose. This does not mean that if you sin or your behavior is not approved of by man, you are not Holy. It means, if you dedicate yourself to God and the things of God, if you have faith in what God has done in His Son Jesus, then if you sin, the sin is not imputed to you. (it does not count against you, you are blameless.)

 

ROMANS 4 verses 3-8 For what says the scripture; Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4. Now to him that works is the reward not reckoned of grace; but of debt. 5. But to him that works not, but believes on him that justifies (makes holy) the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness . 6. Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputes righteousness without works. 7. Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and who sins are covered. 8. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute (count or take inventory of) sin.

 

ROMANS 10:10 For with the heart man believes unto righteousness (holiness); and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

These scriptures clearly showed us that our holiness comes from God choosing us and by we trusting, believing and having faith in Him. The bible says, even we believe in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified (made Holy) by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law.

 

GALATIANS 3:21 Is the Law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness (Holiness, justification, sanctification) would have been by the law.

 

GALATIANS 3:24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified (made Holy, found righteous, innocent or blameless) by faith.

 

EPHESIANS 1 verses 11-14 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will: 12. That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13. In whom you also trusted after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also after that you believed, you were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise (we are now made Holy). 14. Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of (this mortal body by death and resurrection) the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

 

Once again it is not by our behaviors nor our actions that make us Holy. It's our faith in what Jesus did. This is why the bible says, without faith it is impossible to please Him. Holiness means: blameless, not guilty, innocent, just and perfect. We are only found blameless if we have faith in the fact that Jesus covered all sin. We are only found Holy if we have faith that Jesus took away that law of Moses which was against us (where there is no law, sin cannot be imputed). We are only found Holy if we have faith in the fact that not by any works of righteousness we have done, but by grace through faith we are saved, it is the gift of God. Holiness is a gift.

ROMANS 11 verses 13-22; it states that if the root is Holy, so are the branches. God is the root, the trunk of the tree, the branches and the fruit can only be what the root is. This why Matthew 7 verses 17-20 states that a good tree can only bear good fruit and that you can tell a tree by the fruit that it bears. As you can see the branches and fruit can only be what the root is.

1 Corinthians 6 verses 9-11; Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified (set apart as holy), but ye are justified (made holy) in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Titus 3 verses 4-7; But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified (made holy) by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Ephesians 2 verse 8; For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

​

Salvation and Holiness are gifts from God. All Praise and Glory to His Holy name!
