COMMUNION
John 6 verses 51-55
51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven, if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

In the book of Exodus during the original Passover it was the blood that caused the death angel to Passover your houses and the unleavened bread was eaten to give you strength for the journey. God said it was for a memorial forever. When your children were to ask you the meaning of this service, they were to say, this was in remembrance to when God delivered us from the bondage of Egypt with a great and mighty hand. So it is today when we come to the communion table, we come knowing that Jesus is the bread of life and that He is our passover Lamb. We come knowing that Jesus delivered us from the bondage of the elements of this world. As in the original passover we come doing this as a memorial to Jesus.

1 Corinthians 11 verses 24-26
24 "And when He had given thanks, He brake the bread and said, take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me.
25 After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in My blood. This do you as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you do show the Lord's death till He comes."

Many Christians today still do not fully understand the communion table nor do they understand salvation.
They come to the communion table with many traditions and commandments that have nothing to do with what Jesus asked. They lay out their traditions such as: if you have sinned you cannot partake of the table; search yourself for sins etc... I have great news for Christians, Jesus left only one criterion: do it in remembrance of Him. That's it!! If you focus or think of anything else, you do the blood of Jesus an injustice. Because then the focus is not on Jesus anymore, the focus is on your sins or searching yourself, and you are not remembering Jesus. We will verify this below.

1 Corinthians 11 verses 27-29
27 "Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eat and drink unworthily eat and drink damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body."

Let's first deal with the word unworthily: unworthily is an adverb, which speaks of the action and not the person. If it would have been dealing with you as a person, the word would have been unworthy, which is a verb.
Second, the word discerning, comes from the Greek word 'Dia', which means denoting the channel of an action. It also means 'esteeming and doubting'. The key then, as we can see, is that the communion table is based on the action of remembering Him and not on you in the flesh. Let's verify this further, Leviticus 17:11 says, "the life of the flesh is in the blood, and it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul." Hebrews 9:22 says, "without the shedding of blood, there could be no remission of sin." Remission of sins has nothing to do with us, as we can see, but it has everything to do with remembering Jesus. Hebrews 9:12 says, "neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption for us."

Notice Leviticus says it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. Then Hebrews say, without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sins. On those two scriptures alone, anyone should be able to see that yourself righteousness nor your ability to stop sinning is what saves you. It is the Blood!

Isaiah 53 verses 4-5
4 "Surely He has born all of our griefs, and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed."

As we can see once again, Jesus has done everything for us. It is not about what we have done; it is about what Jesus has done for us. This is why when we come to the communion table it is for us to remember Jesus and what Jesus did. Our whole purpose for coming to the communion table is remembering our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Remember what Jesus said eternal life was:

John 17: 3
3 "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou has sent."

See, we have to know that it was God who sent his Son, because the man that he created were flawed and needed a redeemer. And Jesus being obedience to the Father, came shed His blood and gave his life for the sins of the world. In this God brings in a new covenant, through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus. Jesus paid the price and we are not our own anymore, we belong to God.

Romans 3 verses 21-26
21 "But now a righteousness of God without the law is manifested (being brought forward), being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all them that believe: for there is no difference; = Hope 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; = there was no hope 24 Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption (price paid) that is in Christ Jesus: = we have hope 25 Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation (place of mercy through affliction = atonement for sin) through faith (a state of mind without doubt) in His blood, to declare (demonstrate or prove) His righteousness for the remission (passing over or letting go unpunished) of sins previously done (from the beginning of creation till now), through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believes in Jesus."

The communion table is a memorial of Jesus, as we partake of the elements, the bread and the wine, in faith this symbolize the very broken body and the blood of Jesus, thus we obtain grace. This has been represented as far back as Genesis 14:18 "when Melchizedek brought forth bread and wine to Abraham, he was the high priest of the Most High God." Paul said, as often as we take these elements we proclaim the Lord 's death till He comes.

Finally; 1 Corinthians 15 verses 12-19 states; that is Jesus did not raise from the grave, then everything we preach is vain and we all are still in our sins. This is why the communion table is all about remembering what Jesus did, keep your mind, heart and soul focused on Jesus greatness and not on your unworthiness.
Our hope lies in the body and blood of Christ Jesus. He was the final sacrifice.

Hebrews 10 verses 5-19
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
When we break the bread, we are supposed to remember that Jesus body was beaten and crushed in our place for our unworthiness, then when we partake of the wine, we are to remember that His blood has cleansed us of all sin and in His blood is a new covenant that takes us from under the covenant of Moses. This is why we rejoice at the communion table. This truly is the blessing of God! Read what David said.

Romans 4 verses 6-8
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

John 6 verse 35
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

John 6 verses 48-55
48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

Jesus on the night he was betrayed took the bread and said take eat, this is my body (every time we take the bread we remember His body was bruised and beaten for us and he tasted death for us), thereby we eat His body partaking of His death. He then took the cup and said drink, this is my blood (every time we take of the cup, we remember the Blood He shed in death to cover our sins and iniquities, to bring in a new covenant and to give us the sure mercies of David) thereby we drink of His blood partaking of His death. If we do this often, we will never lose site of God's love for us through the death of His Son.

We can now run to the throne of God boldly by the body and Blood of Jesus!
